The beloved Moleskine graces nubie Kindle with its leathery touch. Why might this be?
From the standpoint of the user experience, reading is not solely about taking in communication with words, but it involves some physical engagement as well. A digital reader may be convenient, but the lack of tangible page-turning leaves something to be desired for some people; there's simply no way that oil-based products satisfy the need for touch, the way paper and leather do. Hence, the evolution of a leather wrap for Kindle.
It may be amusing that once-printed books become digitized, and then their digital renditions are placed back into paper and leather. There is a dance, it seems, between the furious pace of digital convenience and our tenacious hold on earthly goodness. It's as if Digital Life were a toddler dashing into new territory, new adventure, while an invisible maternal hand coaxed it back to a safer, familiar, time-tested place.
